Ashby House

Located in Blackburn, Ashby House provides secure accommodation for young care leavers who have been referred by their Social Workers.

What the service delivers

Ashby House offers 6 individual fully furnished flats each containing a private living space, sleeping area and bathroom facilities with a shared kitchen (one per 3 flats). The project is staffed 24 hours each day and has a large communal lounge for group activities.

All Clients staying at Ashby House are allocated a designated Support Worker from our site-based team who develop individual support plans to address any identified areas of need. All support plans are reviewed regularly with the client.

Who is eligible for the service?

The service supports young people leaving care aged 16 and over who have been referred by their Social Worker.

What kind of support will young people receive?

Support that is offered at Ashby House, includes:

  • Advice on housing rights and responsibilities.
  • Support with applying for Housing Benefit and dealing with rent issues.
  • Help accessing specialist services around substance/alcohol issues (where appropriate).
  • Help accessing specialist services around mental health issues (where appropriate).
  • Help with applying for benefits, grants and loans.
  • Help with budgeting, paying bills and debts including rent arrears.
  • Help filling in forms.
  • Support accessing specialist advice and support agencies.
  • Support in accessing employment training and college courses.
  • Accessing welfare rights.
  • Support accessing furniture schemes.
  • Information on local facilities.
  • Access to health-care, leisure, transport, support and activity groups.
  • Information on basic home maintenance.
  • Support to plan meals.
