Volunteering

Introduction
Our volunteering scheme is primarily aimed at supporting our staff and Service User Forum to help deliver services and development activities to service users, and to provide longer-term mentoring / befriending for service users when they leave our services. The aim of the scheme is to help people give back to their community whilst gaining new skills, building confidence and developing a sense of self worth.

We will be developing more formal roles over the next few months so if you would like to find out more, please contact our Head Office on 01706 353000 or via e-mail at recruitment( at )stepping-stone.org.uk .

Why should I volunteer?
Volunteering can offer many things including: a sense of achievement, a way to meet new people, learn new skills, find out what kind of paid work you would be interested in and it also looks great on a CV when you are ready to apply for jobs.

Can I volunteer?
Whilst we welcome all prospective volunteers, to ensure that individuals are placed in suitable roles, we have a formal recruitment process including an application form and interview. The organisation will then seek two references and all applicants will need to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, formally known as a CRB check prior to commencement of any volunteering activity. All volunteers will be given a Volunteer Agreement to clearly set out what is expected from both sides.

What happens next?
We will support you through the recruitment process and make sure you have a chance to learn about Stepping Stone Projects and the role that you will be volunteering in.

What opportunities are there?
There are many different areas where you can volunteer so whatever you’re interested in we should be able to find a role that suits you.

What about paid work?
When you become a volunteer you are free to apply for paid work within Stepping Stone Projects as and when positions become available internally.

What support will I get?
You will get support to learn about Stepping Stone Projects and the work we do. You will have regular meetings with the Service Manager of the scheme in which you volunteer to support you in your role. Stepping Stone Projects’ also offers volunteers a wide range of training opportunities that can help you to develop. Our Volunteer Co-ordinator will support you from the application and recruitment process and whilst you are volunteering for us.
