Stepping Stone Project

The types of service users who benefit from our services are diverse and have a range of needs and backgrounds.  Our services in Burnley specialise in accommodation for young people with general needs.  Our other services accept referrals from vulnerable people with a range of needs which are often multiple.  We aim to support people who are vulnerable for many reasons, including (but not exclusively) their young age, leaving care, learning difficulties, mental health problems, offending issues, and drug and alcohol misuse.

Stepping Stone support staff work closely with service users on a confidential basis, identifying their needs and aspirations at an early stage and working with them in a structured way to deliver jointly agreed outcomes. To facilitate this, Support Plans are drawn up with service users and reviewed on a regular basis. Service users are encouraged to participate in group work, which is offered at all accommodation based projects and to participate and feed into the service development plans of the organisation.

The profile of service users requires staff access to specialist support services and staff to be involved in multi-agency and partnership working in the interest of the service user. Stepping Stone staff are multi-skilled and training plans ensure staff are encouraged to continuously develop their skills and expertise.

Stepping Stone is a flexible service provider and we take referrals from a variety of sources including housing offices, health services, social services, police and probation, as well as accepting self referrals. We work with a broad range of agencies on behalf of our service users and have developed close links with local housing providers and community based health and social services.
