Our Generic Floating Support Service helps vulnerably housed people who are aged 18 and over. We aim to empower Clients to achieve independent living by addressing their housing related support needs.

What the Service Delivers
This floating support service empowers vulnerable people to manage their own tenancies and to become independent. An allocated Support Worker will visit the client in their own home or at a convenient neutral venue and work to a Support Plan of agreed targets. Our clients can access group work sessions, the Organisational Service User Forum and any of the other activities and events which we organise.

Who is Eligible for the Service?
Vulnerable people aged 18 and over with housing related support needs are eligible for the service..

How to Access the Service
Referrals to the scheme must be made through the Central Access Information and Assessment Service which is operated by Shelter on behalf of Rochdale MBC. Shelter complete the assessments for all applicants and liaise with Stepping Stone Projects regarding waiting lists and the allocation of vacancies based on an assessment of need.
Shelter can be contacted on 0344 515 1850 or via e-mail at centralaccess( at ) .

We operate a waiting list due to the heavy flow of referrals we receive and prioritise applicants based on need. As we empower people to live independently, clients move on quickly and time on the waiting list is minimised.

What support is offered?
The scheme provides support with all major issues a Client may be dealing with, including:

  • Accessing specialist agencies relevant to the Client’s specific needs
  • Accessing alternative accommodation, if applicable
  • Maintaining a tenancy
  • Developing independent living skills
